~How to Crate Train Your Puppy~-House-training is a core canine lesson.
Consistency equals success, and success equals a happier dog and household.-
| 1.Your dog should
be able to stand, sit up, turn around, and lie down comfortably in his/her Crate. A dog instinctively avoids eliminating in
the area where he sleeps or eats. If a crate is too big, he may eliminate in it. 2.Make sure to crate
is a safe haven for him. Do not punish him in it. 3. When ever
you let your pup out of the crate, take him outside. Learn his "pre-potty" behaviors, such as circling, holding
his tail a certain way, or sniffing. When you see these behaviors, immediately say "Potty" (or a similar term) so
he associates that word with what he is doing and will do it on command in the future. 4.If you let
him out of the crate inside the house, keep close tabs on him. If you see "pre-potty" behavior, make a sharp noise
to "stop the flow" and immediately take him outside. Praise him softly as he goes. Once he is finished, praise him
more excitedly. Give him a treat or play with him so he associates going outside with something positive. 5.
Be consistent and patient. Accidents are bound to happen, so make sure you have cleaning products on hand. Dogs are naturally den animals. If introduced correctly, a wire cage or plastic crate provides a sense of security - a refuge where your dog can go whenever he needs to get away from the high activity
level of your home or just wants some peace and quiet.
**If
you feel uneasy about caging your dog, we strongly encourage you to talk to your veterinarian,
professional trainer, or other pet owners who have used cages. Anyone who knows dogs will know the value of cages.
